2月17日（日）の第9回目ティースクール講座では、濃茶についてハーブレヒツ 淡月庵 ティアス宗筅先生と師匠のスティーヴン宗駿先生から床の間のしつらえ、お茶のお作法、お道具の拝見について、お話しいただきました。ご参加の方に実践もしていただき、充実した時間となりました。
ご参加の方から、「初めて本格的なお茶席を体験させていただき良い経験になりました」「とても楽しく集中した良い時間でした」とのお声をいただきました。

Murin-an Tea School, No.9
For our ninth tea school seminar on February 17 (Sun.), we learned about koicha (thick matcha) from Tyas Sosen and also from his teacher Stephen Soshun about how to arrange the tokonoma alcove and how to look at tea ceremony utensils. This school session turned into an enriching time for our participants.

無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座
1月23日（水）の14:00-14:30に、ユリカモメの生態などをお伝えさせて頂きました。この時期の日中、鴨川で大群でおりますが、その中で若鳥と成鳥の違いやユリカモメの模様の変化、そして無鄰菴にやってきた野鳥の説明もさせていただきました。ご参加頂いた方から、「ユリカモメの生態を知ることができ、興味深かったです」「夏に顔が黒くなるとは知らなかったです。驚きました！」といったお声をいただきました。

Murin-an Wild Bird Mini-Lecture
On January 23 (Wed.) from 2:00-2:30 PM, we discussed the ecology of the black-headed gull. In the daytime at this time of year, there are large flocks of this bird along the Kamo River. We explained how to tell the difference between the young and adult birds in these flocks and how the plumage of the black-headed gull changes over time.

無鄰菴茶会 第6回『水』
1月20日、裏千家宗名・千葉宗幸／若手庭師による無鄰菴茶会を開催致しました。お茶室の月見台から当時から変わらない庭園解説、その後、茶室内に戻り暖かな空間で、京菓子末富さまにお作りいただいた「若水」、干菓子の「梅花と蕨」とともに三段の滝や雨の庭園についてお話をしていただきながらお茶会をお楽しみ頂きました。

ご参加の方から「山縣有朋と豊臣秀吉との関係、植治の残された貴重な庭にとても驚きました」とのお声を頂きました。次回は2019年2月10日（日）に『山』をテーマに開催いたします。

Murin-an Tea Ceremony No.6
On January 20 (Sun.), Urasenke tea master Soko Chiba held a tea ceremony event at Murin-an. First, there was an explanation of the garden given from the moon viewing platform of the tearoom. Then, we returned inside the warm tearoom to talk about the three-tiered waterfall and what the garden looks like on a rainy day, while we enjoyed a tea ceremony that featured sweets from Suetomi, a leading Japanese confectionery shop in Kyoto.

Our next tea ceremony event will be held on February 10, 2019 (Sun.) and will be based on the theme of “mountains.”

「宇高姉弟のお能講座」第4回『雑能』
1月19日（土）に金剛流能楽師の宇髙竜成（たつしげ）さま、徳成（のりしげ）さま、能面作家の景子さまによるお能講座を開催致しました。
雑能は「その他」にくくられ、様々な演目により、観る方々を飽きさせない工夫がなされたジャンルでございます。掛け軸のお話から始まり、今回お持ちいただいた物狂物・唐物・遊狂物・現在物などの能面をご覧いただきながら演目の解説もございました。
能面解説の合間と最後には舞披露もしていただき、楽しいお時間を過ごしていただきました。

次回は2019年3月23日（土）に節能を開催致します。

Noh Theater Lecture, No.4
On January 19 (Sat.), we held a Noh theater lecture with Tatsushige Udaka and Norishige Udaka, Noh actors of the Kongo school, and Keiko Udaka, a Noh mask craftsman.
Zatsu-Noh is a genre that captivates its audience by combining miscellaneous Noh styles into a wide variety of programs. In this lecture, we heard an explanation of these programs while also looking at the Noh masks used for monogurui (“madness” plays), karamono (plays set in China), yukyomono (plays with musical entertainment) and contemporary Noh plays.

There were Noh dance performances interspersed throughout the lecture and also at the end. Our next Noh event will be held on March 23, 2019 (Sat.) and will feature vocal music performance (fushi-noh).

文化財講座 技術編 第7回「無鄰菴の銘木・木材の世界 その2」
1月14日（月・祝）に、「銘木・木材」をトピックとして、菅澤 茂先生（工学院大学総合研究所客員研究員）、中川 典子さま（銘木師、千本銘木商会 常務取締役）をお招きして文化財講座を開催いたしました。
母屋２階と茶室で、木材の性質を理解し経年の美までを考慮した山縣有朋の美意識を実物を見ながら解説していただきました。ご参加の方からは「お茶室の銘木もさらに注意深く楽しみたい」「これぞ無鄰菴ならではの講座」「細部の見方が変わる」とのお声をいただいています。

(Album) Cultural Property Lecture, No.7
On January 14 (Mon./holiday), we held a cultural property lecture on the topic of precious wood and timber by Professor Shigeru Sugasawa (visiting researcher at the Research Institute for Science and Technology, Kogakuin University) and Noriko Nakagawa (Precious Wood Dealer, Executive Director of Senbon Meiboku Shokai).
On the second floor of Murin-an’s main building, they used real materials to explain the aesthetic sense of Murin-an’s original owner Yamagata Aritomo and its basis in his understanding of timber and the beauty of how it ages over time.

「和菓子の『銘』と歌の世界」vol.3　冬から春へ
1月13日（日）の午後、京菓子司　末富の会長：山口 富蔵さんを招いて和菓子の講座を開催致しました。
ご依頼のあった方への気持や、その方がどのような方に贈られるものか伺い、季節にあった色や形をイメージして創り上げていくお話、十二単の色合いの組み合わせで重ね色を使用し作品を仕上げていくお話などの解説をしていただきました。その他、古今和歌集巻第一－春哥上－の和歌のイメージで創られた和菓子の説明やスクリーンに映し出された銘の説明もございました。本日召し上がっていただいたお菓子は同和歌集の「袖ひぢてむすびし水のこほれるを　春立つけふの風やとくらん」から、表面は雪を、内側は春をイメージしたものでございます。ご参加頂いた方から「2月のお茶会のお菓子を頼むとき、このお話を考えて頼みたいです」とのお声をいただきました。

Japanese Sweets and Poetry, No. 3: From Winter to Spring
On January 13 (Sun.), we held a lecture by Tomizo Yamaguchi, the head of Suetomi, one of Kyoto’s leading Japanese confectionery shops. He explained to us how Japanese sweets are made to match the person placing the order and whom they wish to send sweets to, and also based on the colors and shapes that match the season. He also discussed how confectionery items can be created in layers of colors that match the layered colors in a Japanese court lady’s ceremonial robes or based upon ancient Japanese poetry. The sweets we enjoyed today were based on a poem from the Kokin Wakashu, a famous Japanese poetry

1月12日（土）の午後、お庭のもみじの樹木の活性を促すために、寒肥の肥料をつくり、その肥料を紅葉林の根元付近に穴を開けて入れる作業を行いました。後半は3種類の苔を紅葉林、芝地付近、クスノキ大樹付近に張る作業を。苔は今後も生育出来るように、丁寧に張ったあとで強く叩くように押し込む事に皆さま驚かれておられました。
ご参加頂いた方から「いつもどんな質問にもお答えくださってありがとうございます。どの作業も初めてで楽しくさせていただきました。」「苔の生息に適した場所など勉強になりました。」「入口付近の苔の手入れを素人にさせていただけるなど、ふところの深さを感じます。」といったお声をいただきました。

Gardener’s Lecture No.5
On the afternoon of January 12 (Sat.), we made winter manure fertilizer to invigorate the maple trees in the garden. We then dug holes around the base of a tree grove whose leaves change color in the autumn to place the fertilizer in. During the latter half of our session, we spread three species of moss around that tree grove, the lawn space, and the large camphor tree. Participants were surprised to learn how hard we push the moss into place after laying it down so carefully. We do this in order to enable the moss to grow in the future.

1月12日（土）に茶道教室を開催いたしました。
お茶室でのお稽古を行い、茶釜の沸き立つ湯の音を聞きながら、湯気が温かな空間を醸し出していました。今日も皆さま熱心にお点前のお稽古をされていました。
毎週土曜日、午前9:00～午後16：30の間でお稽古を開催しておりますので、お好きな時間にご参加できます。お気軽にお越しくださいませ。

無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座
1月9日の午後、今回はホトトギスについてお話を致しました。カッコウの仲間のこの野鳥の特有の習性や判別方法など、仮親から育つ雛鳥から成鳥までの過程などをお伝えさせていただきました。
ご参加いただいた方から「全くの無知でしたが、素晴らしく勉強になりました。野鳥の事、興味が出ました。」「これから野鳥に興味を持てそうです。楽しいお話を聞くことが出来て大変良かったです。」とのお声を頂きました。
次回も水曜日14：00-14：30に母屋１階の８畳間にて、イワツバメについてお話させていただきます。

On the afternoon of January 9 Wed.), we held a mini-lecture on the lesser cuckoo. We discussed the characteristics and distinctive traits of this cuckoo family member, such as its growth process from being raised by adoptive parents through adulthood, and also how to know when you are looking at one.
Our next session will also be held on Wednesday from 2:00-2:30 PM in the 8-tatami mat space on the first floor of the main building and will cover the Asian House Martin.

「水墨画の美に楽しむ」第3回

水墨画を楽しむ。第3回
シリーズ最終回の水墨画講座では、村田 隆志先生(大阪国際大学 准教授)のご指導のもと、毛筆を使用してフユイチゴや鶴、竹、動物などの描き方を教わりました。
力の入れ具合により、練習でも様々な作品が出来上がり楽しい絵画の時間を過ごしていただきました。ご参加下さった方から「水墨画の自由さを美しいお庭を見ながら教えて頂きとても楽しかったです」「初めての水墨画体験でしたが、とても分かりやすくご指導頂き楽しかったです」とのコメントを頂きました。

Enjoying Ink Painting, No.3
At our final ink painting seminar, Prof. Takashi Murata (Osaka International University) taught us how to use a writing brush to draw rubus buergeri (a species of raspberry), bamboo trees, cranes and other animals.
This was a fun painting session where participants produced many works while they practiced controlling the amount of force they applied to their brushstrokes.
