Japanese confectionery can express a wide range of gustatory experiences with limited material. In the world of tea, Japanese sweets have gained a range of expression that can be compared with abstract paintings, seeking the spread of their images in the world of literature such as Waka (Japanese poem). Yet, it was not a mere skeleton only in the limited special tea world, but it was closely related to the living conditions of people who enjoy the scenery and seasons. In this lecture, Mr. Tomizo Yamaguchi, head of the leading Kyoto Japanese confectionery shop Suetomi, who has lived in Kyoto over half a century will talk about the expressiveness of Japanese sweets. As a matter of fact, you will taste his seasonal sweets masterpieces with green tea later in the program.
