茶の湯講座　第4回「茶花」

2月2日(日)午後、連続講座の茶の湯講座を開催いたしました。今回のテーマは茶花について。生け花と茶花の違い、茶花の歴史の説明などをおこなったのち、実際に茶花を活けていただきました。花の選び方や禁花に当たるものも学んでいただきつつ、皆さま楽しみながら生け込みをされていました。ご参加の方からは、「茶花にとても興味がわきました」「時間を延長してもっと楽しみたい」といったコメントがございました。

Chanoyu Lecture Series, No. 4
On the afternoon of February 2 (Sun.), we held another lecture in our Chanoyu lecture series. This time, our theme was “tea flowers” (chabana). We discussed the history of tea flowers and then had participants arrange tea flowers themselves. Everyone enjoyed arranging the flowers as the learned how to choose them and also about “forbidden flowers” (kinka).

アセビの花が咲き始めました。

今年は少し気温が高いこともあり、早期に一輪、また一輪と白い小さな蕾が開花しています。垂れ下がるようにたくさんの花が開くと、かすかな甘い香りがモミジ林の園路で楽しめるようになります。

Flowers Started Blooming on the Japanese Andromedas
Partly because it has been a little warmer than usual this year, these little white buds have been blooming early, one after another. When so many flowers bloom that they hang downward, then we can enjoy their faintly sweet fragrance along the garden path of the maple grove.

無鄰菴では、四季折々の「しつらえ」でお客様をお迎えさせていただいております。明日は二十四節気の「立春（りっしゅん）」にちなんだ季節のしつらえを母屋にてお楽しみいただけます。また「立春」に合わせたこの日限りのお茶菓子（限定数）もご用意し、皆様のお越しをお待ちしております。当日は、の紅梅のお茶菓子をご用意致します。尚、こちらの茶菓子席は無くなり次第終了です。ご了承下さいませ。

(Seasonal Tea Sweets Day） Risshun 立春

Spend a truly Japanese afternoon with appropriately seasonal sweets in a room decorated with seasonal things. At Murin-an, you can savor the season’s blessings with all your senses. Tomorrow’s theme is “Risshun” (立春), Spring Begins in Japan’s 24-season calendar.
Enjoy sitting next to our new arrangement in the main house while exploring the delicate taste of wagashi (Japanese sweets) balanced by the pleasantly bitter taste of matcha tea, and also enjoying the soothing view of the garden.
First-come-first-served, there is only a limited availability of tea sweets, which are exclusively created for Murin-an garden.

「無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座」／Wednesday: Wild Bird Lesson

1月29日（水）の午後、8畳間にて無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座を開催いたしました。講座中には4種の野鳥飛来の確認もあり、時々訪れる青い色が特徴的であるイソヒヨドリの飛来もございました。本日のトピックはハシビロガモについて。ご家庭にある洗濯機を例えながら、この野鳥の面白い習性をお伝えいたしました。東山エリアや鴨川にも毎年飛来がありますが、今年は数が少なくなりました。ご参加の方から「お話も分かりやすく写真を交えているのが良かったです」といったコメントをいただきました。

Murin-an Wild Bird Mini-lecture
On the afternoon of January 29 (Wed.), we held a wild bird mini-lecture in the 8-tatami mat space of Murin-an’s main house. During the lecture, four wild bird species were sighted, including a Blue Rock Thrush, a bird with a unique blue color that sometimes visits Murin-an. Today’s lecture topic was on the Northern Shoveler. We explained the interesting traits of this wild bird by relating it to a washing machine. Northern Shovelers come to the Higashiyama area and the Kamo River every year, but this year they have decreased in number.

無鄰菴の指定管理者として管理運営を行っている「植彌加藤造園」無鄰菴プログラムディレクター・山田咲が、2020年3月7日(土)に国立京都国際会館で行われる特別見学会・公開講座『京都のモダニズム建築に魅入られて』の館内ツアーにて日本庭園の解説を担当いたします。

日本初の国際会議場である国立京都国際会館。
本館の南西に広がる回遊式庭園は建築と同じく大谷幸夫氏の設計によるもので、植彌加藤造園は大谷氏の設計意図に基づき、作庭当初からその後の改修工事・育成管理まで長年携わっております。ぜひこれを機に庭園解説をお聞き下さい。申込等の詳細は国立京都国際会館のHPをご覧ください。

無鄰菴茶道教室

1月24日(金)、25日（土）に無鄰菴茶道教室を母屋2階、お茶室にて開催いたしました。お稽古の中ではお茶道具の1つである「建水（お茶碗を清めた水をいれる物）」についてのお話があり、その素材に信楽・青磁・唐金といったものがある旨を詳しく説明いたしました。普段使用しているお稽古の道具を知っておくことも大切な事であり、生徒の皆さまはその知識をしっかりと受け止められておられました。

On January 24 and 25 (Fri. and Sat.), we held tea ceremony lessons in Murin-an’s tea room and the second floor of its main house. During the lesson, there was a discussion of the waste-water container (kensui) for water used to purify tea bowls with, including a detailed explanation of how these containers are made using many different materials, including Shigaraki pottery, porcelain and bronze. Knowing about the utensils ordinarily used during lessons is important, and our students thus readily took in this knowledge.

苔上の落下ツバキ

モミジ林に生育しているツバキはまだまだ開花が続いています。椿蜜を求めて色々な野鳥の訪れもあり、数日後には苔上へと落下していきます。午前中は朝の庭掃除時には取り除いていますが、午後にはこの光景が見られます。緑の上にひと差しの濃い桃色が周囲の景色を変化させております。

Camellias Falling On the Moss
The camellias that grow in Murin-an’s maple grove are still flowering even now. Different wild birds visit them in search of camellia nectar and their flowers fall on the moss a few days after blooming. These we remove when we clean the garden in the morning. In the afternoon, however, you can see a scene like this one. The splash of deep rose-colored color on top of green brings a feeling of change to the surrounding scenery.

「日本盆栽、小さな巨木—盆栽からBONSAIへ！その愉しみを知る通史」 第1回　古代から室町まで –神仙思想から東山文化−　

1月26日（日）の午後、全3回講座の第1回目がスタートしました。対話形式で講義が進み、スクリーンに映し出された画像の解説を、盆栽研究家 川﨑仁美先生が詳しく紐解いていきました。はじめのトピックは「盆栽と鉢植えの違い」について。どちらも木が鉢に植えられていますが、実は目的が「芸術作品」なのか「元気に育てること」なのか、という点で異なります。盆栽の起源を遡り、時代ごとに変化する盆栽についてお話いただきました。またお客様から質問の手が続々と上がり、とても充実した連続講座の幕開けとなりました！

“Bonsai, Japan’s Little Big Trees: A History Lesson in How to Enjoy Them” No. 1, From Ancient Times Through the Muromachi Period
On the afternoon of January 26 (Sun.), we held the first seminar of this three-part series. The seminar proceeded in a dialogue format, with bonsai researcher Hitomi Kawasaki explaining and unraveling screen images for us in detail. The first topic was “The Difference Between Bonsai and Potted Plants.” While both plant trees in pots, they differ when it comes to whether their aim is “artwork” or “healthy nurturing.” Ms. Kawasaki traced bonsai’s origins and spoke about how it has changed through each of its historical periods. One after another, people raised their hands to ask questions, thus getting this seminar series off to an energetic start!
Our next seminar in this series will be held on June 20 (Sat.).
