苔の手入れ

モミジ林の樹木の根元にはスギゴケの仲間が生育しています。その周囲はハイゴケなどが辺り一面を覆う景観となっていますが、スギゴケとハイゴケの緑を魅せるため、円を描くようにスギゴケの外周ラインを整え、内円に入り込んでいるハイゴケを手作業で摘み取っていきました。お手入れをした箇所は濃淡の緑がくっきりと分かるようになっています。

Tending to the Moss
Relatives of Juniper haircap moss (sugigoke) grow around the roots of the trees in Murin-an’s maple grove. Surrounding them is a scene of carpet moss (haigoke) covering the area. To bring out the allure in the connection between the haircap moss and carpet moss, our gardeners organized the perimeter of the haircap moss into the outline of a circle and hand removed the carpet moss that had entered inside. You can now see a clear connection between light and shade in the areas where they worked.

無鄰菴在釜／Tuesdays: Japanese Tea

1月21日（火）は無鄰菴在釜の日です。
先週の在釜風景から。
寒い日にも関わらず、無鄰菴在釜は大勢のお客様で大変賑やかでした。
「お庭を眺めながら、お着物でされるお点前を拝見でき、とても贅沢ですね」とおっしゃってくださったり、中国からお越しのあるお客様には「中国では私は甘い抹茶しか飲んだことがなく、抹茶本来の味が美味しい」と喜んでいただきました。他にも熱心に茶道具をご覧になる方もいらっしゃいました。様々なお客様と様々なお話が飛び交う和気あいあいとした在釜でした。

無鄰菴在釜は毎週火曜日午前9時から午後4時まで開催しております。
どなたでも気軽に体験していただけます。お作法をご存知なくても大丈夫！

無鄰菴茶道教室

1月17日（金）、18日（土）に母屋2階、茶室にて茶道教室を開催致しました。今回は茶箱点前の割稽古をおこないました。これは外でお茶を楽しむため、箱の中に茶道具を入れて行うお点前。ほとんど生徒さんは今日が初めての体験となりました。翌日は盆略や濃茶のお点前のお稽古をおこない、みなさま真剣なまなざしで向き合っておられました。大切な事であり、生徒の皆さまはその知識をしっかりと受け止められておられました。

Tea ceremony utensils are placed in a box so that the tea ceremony can be enjoyed outside. For almost all our students, this was their first time to experience this tea ceremony style. On the following day, we held lessons for the simplified (bonryaku) and thick tea (koicha) tea ceremony styles; you could see the looks of concentration in students’ eyes as they faced each other.

連続講座「日本庭園通史」⑤明治～大正時代「七代目小川治兵衛と近代日本庭園」

1月18日（土）の午後、国際交流会館にて弊社社長により連続講座を開催いたしました。　前回の庭園のおさらいも兼ねて、時代による庭園の特徴をお伝えし、本題では、七代目小川治兵衛が携わった文化財や疏水園池群れにおける水利権の利用状況、作庭家の活動区分による庭園群の変遷について詳細をお伝えいただきました。
ご参加いただいた方から「借景の樹木剪定の話は興味深かった」「現場での経験と、きちんと整理されている話を聞ける機会が貴重でした。また他の講座も参加したいです」などのコメントをいただきました。
次回の「日本庭園通史」 6(最終回) 全体総括「庭園の歴史的背景を生かした育成管理」は3月20日（金・祝日）に開催いたしますが、既にキャンセル待ちとなっております。

Seminar Series “Japanese Gardening History: Ogawa Jihei VII and the Modern Japanese Garden”
On the afternoon of January 18 (Sat.), at Kyoto International Community House, we held another lecture in our ongoing seminar series with Ueyakato Landscape President Tomoki Kato. He summarized the main points from his last lecture with an overview of the characteristics the Japanese gardens from each historical period and explained the use of irrigation rights in the cultural property gardens and other gardens using canal water that Ogawa Jihei VII was involved in.
Our next and final lecture in this “Japanese Gardening History” series will be held on March 20 (Fri./holiday) and will cover “Fostering Gardens by Using Their Historical Background.”

セグロセキレイの訪れ

今年も瀬落ちの周辺で見られるようになりました。実はこのセグロセキレイは昨年無鄰菴で巣立った若鳥です。春先にはもっと背中の黒色が濃くなり、白黒のコントラストがくっきりと分かれるようになります。

A Japanese Wagtail Visits Murin-an
Once again, this year we’ve started to see them around Murin-an’s cascades. In fact,this is a young bird that left the nest at Murin-an last year. By early spring, the black color on its back will grow darker and draw a clear contrast with its white feathers.

無鄰菴では、四季折々の「しつらえ」でお客様をお迎えさせていただいております。明日は二十四節気の「大寒（だいかん）」にちなんだ季節のしつらえを母屋にてお楽しみいただけます。また「大寒」に合わせたこの日限りのお茶菓子（限定数）もご用意し、皆様のお越しをお待ちしております。当日は、椿のお茶菓子をご用意致します。尚、こちらの茶菓子席は無くなり次第終了です。ご了承下さいませ。

(Seasonal Tea Sweets Day） Daikan大寒
Spend a truly Japanese afternoon with appropriately seasonal sweets in a room decorated with seasonal things. At Murin-an, you can savor the season’s blessings with all your senses. Tomorrow’s theme is “Daikan” (大寒), Most Frigid in Japan’s 24-season calendar.
Enjoy sitting next to our new arrangement in the main house while exploring the delicate taste of wagashi (Japanese sweets) balanced by the pleasantly bitter taste of matcha tea, and also enjoying the soothing view of the garden.

ヒムロスギの剪定

無鄰菴入り口の南側にはヒムロスギの高木がございます。
不要な枝葉を取り除き、樹幹や枝ぶりをよく見えるように剪定いたしました。葉は針のようですが、柔らかくふんわりした手触りをしています。剪定した枝葉の一部は先祖返りをしていてサワラの葉を出していた部分もございました。ヒムロスギはサワラの園芸品種ですので、このような事が希にございます。

Pruning the False Cypress
There is a tall false cypress tree growing on the south side of Murin-an’s entrance. We removed unnecessary branches, so that the tree’s trunk and branches are now clearly visible. The pruned branches have needles on them, but are soft to the touch. Some of the branches had revertedto sawara trees. This happens occasionally because false cypress is a sawara breed used for horticultural species.

「無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座」／Wednesday: Wild Bird Lesson

1月15日（水）の午後、野鳥講座を母屋1階8畳間にて開催いたしました。冬鳥として飛来するオカヨシガモについて、他のカモ類とは違う特徴をお伝えしました。話の途中、庭園内にカワセミの飛来もあり、室内からその様子を探す事もございました。
今回がちょうど100回目の野鳥講座。過去の野鳥解説時にお渡ししたポストカードから本日のものを含め、数枚お気に入りのものをご参加の方々で選んでもらってお持ち帰りしていただきました。第2回目に解説をした「水しぶきをあげるカワセミ」のイラストが皆さまお気に入りの様子でした。
毎週水曜日に開催している「無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座」は14:00~14:30の30分、母屋1階の8畳の間で行っています。1種を取り上げてその野鳥の解説や生態の面白さなどを、お庭を眺めつつ、やってきた野鳥の解説も行いながらお話をしています。
お越し頂いた方には先着20名様に、その時にお話をした無鄰菴野鳥の特製オリジナル絵葉書をプレゼントしています！お気軽にご参加くださいませ。

Murin-an Wild Bird Mini-lecture
On the afternoon of January 15 (Wed.), we held a wild bird mini-lecture in the 8-tatami mat space of the main house’s first floor. We discussed the characteristics of the Gadwall, a winter migratory duck species that visits Murin-an. During the discussion, a common kingfisher arrived in the garden, which we looked for from inside the main house.
This was our 100th wild bird mini-lecture. We had participants select their favorite postcards from among those handed out at mini-lectures in the past, and including the one for this lecture, to take home with them. The illustration of the “Kingfisher splashing water” from our second mini-lecture was everyone’s favorite.

大阪学院大学短期大学部×無鄰菴 コラボ企画『フランス額装と庭と暮らし』が終了しました。

1月11日（土）から開催されたフランス額装の展示会は15日（水）に幕を閉じました。学生の皆さまが無鄰菴をイメージした作品のデッサンから厳選された4品目が和菓子の限定販売となり、大変好評なものとなりました。それぞれの品目は「冬解」「朽ちゆくもの」「ながらふ」「日華」。カフェでの販売では、お抹茶と共に召し上がっていただきました。
最終の15日まで、洋館1階、母屋1階8畳間では写真、立体的なデザイン、陶器など、様々なものが額縁に収められてとても表現豊かな作品の展示が勢ぞろいしていました。
