無鄰菴きもの教室-生活の中に文化を！-

12月18日(水）に12月最後のきもの教室を開催いたしました。着付けのお稽古の後は、椅子の座り方や階段の昇降の足の運び方、電車でのつり革の持ち方など、年末年始に向けて必要になることを沢山お伝えもしていただきました。今後も基本的な所作なども含めて、来年も着物教室を開催いたします。次回は1月8日（水）に開催いたします。

Murin-an Kimono School
On December 18 (Wed.), we held our last kimono class for the month. After a lesson on how to wear the kimonos, our instructor taught students many things they need to know for the New Year’s season, including how to sit in seats, move their legs while moving up and down the stairs, and how to handle the hanging straps on trains. We shall continue holding these kimono wearing lessons covering things like basic kimono movements next year too.

セグロセキレイのペア

セグロセキレイのペア

ほぼ毎日セグロセキレイが流れの中で餌探しのために訪れています。
全身の黒白のコントラストがはっきりしているのが雄、背面がやや褐色気味の黒色であれば雌になります。最近どこかで怪我をしたのか、メスの歩き方が少し心配です。

12月17日（火）は無鄰菴在釜の日です。師走も半ば。無鄰菴の紅葉も終わりを告げ、お庭は静かな時を重ねながら冬の装いへと変わっていきます。
皆様、お忙しい時期だと存じますが、静かな冬のお庭を眺めながらお抹茶を召し上がってみませんか？きっとリラックスしていただけると思います。

受付前のクロマツの剪定

受付前にあるクロマツの剪定を行いました。
松葉の葉むしりは指先の感覚を頼りにおこないます。樹冠部分に行くにつれて横枝がたくさん出ていますが、丈夫そうな枝を選び、バランスを取りながら作業を行っていきます。樹への負担を減らすため、一度足を掛けた場所で手の届く範囲の葉むしりを素早く行い、次に体勢を整えた場所でまた作業を繰り返します。

横枝が複雑に交差するような部分は困難な体勢を維持しながら葉むしりをすることもあり、柔軟さも必要になります。この一連の流れを樹冠部から下方へ進めていきます。

Pruning the Black Pine by Murin-an’s Reception Window
We pruned the black pine (kuromatsu) in front of our reception window. Gardeners pluck pine needles by relying on the sensations in their fingertips. As they approach the tree’s canopy, there are many side shoots coming out of it, so they strike a balance by choosing the healthy-looking branches. To reduce the burden on the tree, they quickly pluck the needles that they can reach with their hands while keeping their feet on the ground and then repeat the work as they adjust their body positions to different places. In areas where the tree’s side shoots overlap in complex ways, they sometimes pluck needles while staying in very difficult positions. They continue this process as they move downward from the tree’s canopy.

週末庭園めぐり

12月14日(土）、15日(日）に週末庭園巡りを開催いたしました。
お庭の雰囲気や作庭にご興味がございましたので、その内容を踏まえつつ冬初めのお庭を一緒に巡りました。目で見るお庭、耳で聞くお庭、中でも苔にとても興味を持っていただきました。ご参加いただいた方から「ガイドしていただいた方が心からこの庭を、仕事を楽しんでおられることが伝わってきました。おかげさまでお庭とガイドさんのファンになりました。次回は朝もやの日に来ます！」とコメントを頂きました。

無鄰菴茶道教室

12月13日（金）、14日（土）、母屋2階にて茶道教室のお稽古を開催いたしました。
昨日の夜から冷え込んだ気温となりましたが、立礼での振る舞いのお稽古中、近くにあった鉄瓶の温かさが伝わってきました。盆略点前のお稽古の中で、筒から茶巾を取り出す動作、その方法を丁寧に伝達していただきました。

Murin-an Tea School
On December 13 and 14 (Fri. and Sat.), we held tea ceremony lessons on the second floor of Murin-an’s main building. The temperature has grown much chillier since Thursday night, but we could feel the warmth coming from the iron kettle nearby during step-by-step lessons in how to behave at a ryurei (table and chair) tea ceremony. For lessons in bonryaku temae (a simplified version of the tea ceremony), our instructor carefully showed students how to remove one’s tea cloth (chakin) from a cylindrical tea bowl (tsutsu).

ヒサカキの果実

園路の脇に小さな黒い粒がびっしりと成っている低木がございます。
ヒサカキの果実がちょうど見頃を迎えています。時々枝の先端に小さな緑色の粒がございますが、これは、果実を付けながらも来年に向けてのつぼみでございます。また、雄株・雌株がございますので、雄株には黒い実はございません。

クロマツの剪定

クロマツは別名として男松（おまつ）の名があり、アカマツに比べて葉も枝もしっかりしている様から付けられています。
アカマツと同様に樹幹部から手作業で葉を取り除き、不要な枝は剪定ばさみで切り取っている作業の風景です。葉むしりを行っている際は、取り除いた部分から松脂が出て空気に触れると徐々に固まっていきます。
人間で例えると、かさぶたのようなもので防衛反応を行います。樹木に大きなダメージを与えずに剪定やお手入れをすることを心掛けることも作業の一部でございます。

「無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座」／Wednesday: Wild Bird Lesson

12月11日（水）、今回の無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座では、宮沢賢治の作品にも出てくるヨタカについてお話いたしました。無鄰菴にあるアカマツの大樹にも飛来したことがあり、大きな口が特徴的なこの野鳥は、夜行性でございます。解説中、庭園内に様々な野鳥も現れ、その姿を見ながら楽しむ場面もございました。講座の中では「サギの種類がとても好きです」「とても面白い講座で、野鳥の写真の撮り方のコツも教わり、とても勉強になった」とお声もいただきました。

毎週水曜日に開催している「無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座」は14:00~14:30の30分、母屋1階の8畳の間で行っています。1種を取り上げてその野鳥の解説や生態の面白さなどを、お庭を眺めつつ、やってきた野鳥の解説も行いながらお話をしています。

Murin-an Wild Bird Mini-lecture

On December 11 (Wed.), we held a mini-lecture on the Grey Nightjar, a bird also discussed in the works of poet Miyazawa Kenji. These wild birds, which have sometimes flown inside Murin-an’s large red pine (akamatsu), have characteristically large mouths and are nocturnal. Many wild bird species appeared in the garden during our lecture, and there were also some moments where we enjoyed looking at them.

Murin-an’s weekly Wednesday “Wild Bird Mini-lecture” is held from 2:00-2:30 PM in the 8-tatami mat space in the main house of the first floor. We choose a wild bird species and discuss interesting characteristics about it and its ecology while also looking out at the garden and explaining any wild birds that happen to fly by.

Our first twenty participants get an original postcard featuring the Murin-an wild bird discussed that week! Feel free to drop in.

キミノセンリョウの果実

三段の滝前にある沢飛び石を渡る前、母屋側をご覧いただくと、苔の絨毯上にキミノセンリョウの黄色い果実がたくさん実っています。
2か所あるうち、こちらの樹が見頃を迎えています。滝口側には赤実のセンリョウもあり、朱色の果実も楽しめる場所です。「黄色いセンリョウはこれから赤くなるのですか？」とお声をいただきますが、品種により、この色で完熟となります。

Fruits on the Yellow Sarcabra Herb Bush
Before you cross the water-crossing stones in front of the three-stage waterfall, look back at the main house and you shall see above the moss carpet a yellow sarcabra herb shrub with lots of yellow fruit growing on it. Of the three areas where this shrub grows in Murin-an, this is the one to see right now. People often ask us, “Will the yellow sarcabra shrub eventually turn red?” This species, however, is fully ripe when it turns yellow
