流れそうじ

アカマツの剪定を行ったあと、細かな松葉やモミジの紅葉した葉が水面及び水底に蓄積したものを取り除いています。瀬落ちや水際の庭石の隙間に入り込んだ松葉などは手ぼうきで掻き出しながらの作業を行い、水面を波打つ波紋が揺らめきをもった紅葉の水景色を映し出していました。

Cleaning Murin-an’s Stream
After pruning Murin-an’s red pine tree (akamatsu), we’re removing the small pine needles and red maple leaves that have accumulated on the surface and at the bottom of the stream. As we used our whisk brooms to pick out pine needles stuck in the cascade and in gaps between the garden stones nearby the stream, the ripples on the water’s surface reflected a shimmering autumn scene.

「無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座」／Wednesday: Wild Bird Lesson

11月20日（水）の午後、ホオジロについてお伝えいたしました。瀬戸内地方では、「ショウト」とも呼ばれることがあり、ホオジロが猿蟹合戦のような鬼退治に出かける昔話がございます。
春の季語としても使われるこの野鳥の聞きなしは様々な言い回しがあり、幾つかお伝えさせてさせていただきました。この周辺では深山から鴨川の広い範囲に生息していますので、立ち止まってその声をじっくり聴いてみるのも面白いかもしれません。

毎週水曜日に開催している「無鄰菴野鳥ミニ講座」は14:00~14:30の30分、母屋1階の8畳の間で行っています。1種を取り上げてその野鳥の解説や生態の面白さなどを、お庭を眺めつつ、やってきた野鳥の解説も行いながらお話をしています。

ハナショウブの種子

南側流れ内に生育しているハナショウブは6月に開花を迎え、ようやく種子が割れ始めました。中からそっと覗かせている種子は硬く、そして大きいので野鳥に食べられることなく残ったままでございます。月日が経つと茎が乾燥して折れ始めるので、しばらくすると、刈り取る予定です。

アカマツのお手入れ

庭園内の一番大きなアカマツの葉むしりを行いました。早朝からお手入れの準備が始まり、むしり取った松葉を受けるため陸地では緑色の網目ネット、水辺では竹の仕切りを浮かべました。クロマツの時と同様に樹冠部分から手先の感覚を頼りに作業を行いました。

Tending to Murin-an’s Red Pine
We plucked the needles on the largest red pine tree in Murin-an’s garden. Preparation for this work begins early in the morning, with a green net being used to catch the pine needles on the ground and bamboo dividers set up inside the water. Just like work for the black pines, this work was performed by working our way downward from the tree’s crown while relying on the sensation in our fingertips.

お庭の紅葉

お庭が朱色に色付きました！
ぐっと気温が低くなる中、お庭のモミジの葉が黄色、朱色、紅色と色付きました。昨日の雨雫により、苔の青さとモミジの葉色のコントラストがお庭を彩っています。早朝、昼間、夕方と、時間帯によって異なる雰囲気がございます。

Murin-an’s garden is turning red!
Temperatures are coming way down and the maple leaves in Murin-an’s garden are turning yellow, vermilion, and red. After the recent rainfall, the garden is now colored by the contrast struck between the green of the moss and the colors of the maple leaves. Whether its early morning, noon or evening, the garden’s atmosphere changes according to the time of day.

週末庭園巡り

11月16日(土）17日(日）、紅葉深まる中の庭園を散策していただきながらコンシェルジュガイドを開催いたしました。この時期に成熟した植物たちの説明も解説を行いつつ、施主のお庭づくりの意向や、七代目小川治兵衛との関係などをお伝えさせていただきました。ご参加の方から「詳しく理解しやすい説明で歴史を学習する意欲が生まれました」などのコメントを頂きました。

Weekend Garden Guides
On November 16 and 17 (Sat. and Sun.), we gave expert guided tours of Murin-an while strolling with guests around a garden with deepening autumn colors. We gave explanations of the plants that mature during this time of the year and also discussed the original owner’s intentions for his garden and his relationship to master gardener Ogawa Jihei VII.

無鄰菴茶道教室

11月15日(金）、16日(土）の無鄰菴茶道教室の様子です。紅葉も目立つようになりました。お稽古中は作法に集中をされていますが、休憩時やお稽古の順番を待つ間は、他の門下生のお稽古を学びつつ景色もご堪能いただきました。

Here are some pictures of tea ceremony lessons we held on November 15 and 16 (Fri. and Sat.). The autumn leaves have started to stand out. During their lessons, our students concentrate on tea ceremony etiquette, but during breaks or while waiting for their turn to be taught, they indulged in gazing at Murin-an’s scenery as they learned from their fellow students’ lessons.

大石の裏側

モミジ林の対岸には「大石」がございます。醍醐山の石切り場から運び出されたもので、ひと際大きく存在感がございます。この庭石の裏側にも苔が生育しているので、日の光が地面へ注がれるように手入れをしています。大石に架かるクチナシなどの葉枝と周辺の低木を整えて、表側からの姿がより一層目立つようになりました。

Behind Murin-an’s Large Rock
On the other side of the maple grove lies Murin-an’s “large rock.” This rock, quarried from Kyoto’s Mt. Daigo and brought to Murin-an, has a presence that is greater than most. Because moss grows on the rock’s opposite side, we provide care so that sunlight reaches the ground. We trimmed the leaves and branches of gardenias and other shrubs growing around the large rock, thus making its appearance seen from the front stand out all the more prominently.
